Four lawyers, one small office

We keep the firm small so the lawyer you meet is the lawyer who reads your file. Each of us has a page about how they work.

  • A lawyer in a tan T-shirt stocking cans and bread into bins behind a handwritten free food sign at a food shelf

    Britta Tollefson

    Founding partner

Forms new nonprofits and keeps established ones in good standing. Saturdays she stocks the shelves at a neighborhood food shelf.

  • A smiling lawyer with a short beard in a dark jacket and vest, standing outdoors with his hands clasped

    Karim Najjar

    Attorney, contracts and leases

Reads the lease, the grant agreement and the vendor contract before anyone signs, and says which line matters.

  • A lawyer with glasses in a cream vest and white shirt working at a desk with a laptop and papers

    Yer Vue

    Attorney, governance and board matters

Keeps bylaws, policies and board minutes in step with how the organization really runs, and sits with a board when it disagrees.

  • A lawyer with glasses and a purple shawl standing in a softly blurred park

    Paramjit Dhillon

    Of counsel, transitions and mergers

Helps a board plan the day the founder steps back, whether that means a new director, a merger or an orderly close.

How we work with a small organization

Most of our clients have a staff of two, a board of seven and a budget that depends on this year's grant. We keep that in mind in how we write and what we charge.

  • We quote formation work in writing before we begin
  • We answer in plain words and put the answer in an email the board can keep
  • We say when a question is better settled by the board than by a lawyer
  • We say when we are not the right firm and who might be
